I take my spring cleaning seriously, and the stockroom was getting just too crowded.

So I decided to have a "flash" sale. $9 on all of the older vintage pieces, inspiration items, samples, and leftover goodies from the past seasons. I started the sale at 7 AM today. By 9:30, the first wave of customers was having a blast. Customers were inviting each other to parties that evening as they shared style tips, and the sale was in full swing.

My original four hour sale turned into a full day of sale. Customers were calling friends to tell them about the sale and I finally brought the bins in just as the sun was setting.

So I've decided to extend the "Flash" sale for a few more days. Dig through the $9 racks outside. Then come in and check out the redlined items inside as well. BOGO 1/2 off all redlined items (excluding the $9 items). Empty hangers and a clear stockroom make me ready to tackle the new season. Help me out, won't you?!

I used to dress in pink all of the time. Now you find me most of the time in black... a throwback to my days of living in NYC. It's so much fun to dress little Bonnie-Blue Sunshine. She is now 3 1/2 months old and can finally fit into her 0-3 month sized clothes. It's like getting a new wardrobe every few months! My friend Bridgette Valenzano from Philadelphia sent this cute onesie from her kids line, Little Bones to me. Seriously, it's so flippin' cute.

I finally get grunge...

As a new mom, I am juggling staying at home with the baby along with keeping my business running. Netflix and Hulu have become my new stay-at-home friends to keep me entertained while nursing. And with that comes inspiration.

So when I saw the movie "Pearl Jam 20" come up on instant view on Netflix, I wasn't sure if it would be something that I would enjoy. I've never been a Pearl Jam fan. I was a New Wave girl and liked bright colors, nerdy boys, and sunshine. Pearl Jam and grunge represented gloomy weather, heroin chic, and plaid (yuck!) shirts.

The movie "Singles" was the closest I got to liking grunge. But I kept watching it to see Campbell Scott (who looks an awful lot like my hubby), and to drown my tears after a breakup in my twenties.

And remember Marc Jacobs designing grunge clothing for Perry Ellis? The fashion was so bad that he was fired... uh oh!

Somehow, though, I found myself a Pearl Jam fan today. After watching Pearl Jam Twenty, I'm mezmerized by Eddy Vedder and his band. I love how they took on Ticketmaster years ago and enjoyed seeing him dive into the crowd in his younger days. Directed by Cameron Crowe, great job!

Our 3rd Annual Holiday Soiree... and my thoughts for the holidays...

One of my favorite events is the holiday soiree that we do at the boutique.

This year, we're doing it on Thursday, 11/17 from 6 to 9 PM.

We bring out our signature apple cider, bling out the store with decorations, give out goody bags ($50 purchase or more), mix and mingle, and get excited for the holidays before they get too hectic.

I am already hearing about the focus for the holiday season on my own personal Facebook feed, and I'm excited that there is a renewed emphasis on supporting local merchants.

This morning, I got this email from my mom.

Christmas 2011 -- Birth of a New Tradition

As the holidays approach, the giant Asian factories are kicking into high gear to provide Americans with monstrous piles of cheaply produced goods -- merchandise that has been produced at the expense of American labor. This year will be different. This year Americans will give the gift of genuine concern for other Americans. There is no longer an excuse that, at gift giving time, nothing can be found that is produced by American hands. Yes there is!

It's time to think outside the box, people. Who says a gift needs to fit in a shirt box, wrapped in Chinese produced wrapping paper?

Everyone -- yes EVERYONE gets their hair cut. How about gift certificates from your local American hair salon or barber?

Gym membership? It's appropriate for all ages who are thinking about some health improvement.

Who wouldn't appreciate getting their car detailed? Small, American owned detail shops and car washes would love to sell you a gift certificate or a book of gift certificates.

Are you one of those extravagant givers who think nothing of plunking down the Benjamins on a Chinese made flat-screen? Perhaps that grateful gift receiver would like his driveway sealed, or lawn mowed for the summer, or driveway plowed all winter, or games at the local golf course.

There are a bazillion owner-run restaurants -- all offering gift certificates. And, if your intended isn't the fancy eatery sort, what about a half dozen breakfasts at the local breakfast joint. Remember, folks this isn't about big National chains -- this is about supporting your home town Americans with their financial lives on the line to keep their doors open.

How many people couldn't use an oil change for their car, truck or motorcycle, done at a shop run by the American working guy?

Thinking about a heartfelt gift for mom? Mom would LOVE the services of a local cleaning lady for a day.

My computer could use a tune-up, and I KNOW I can find some young guy who is struggling to get his repair business up and running.

OK, you were looking for something more personal. Local crafts people spin their own wool and knit them into scarves. They make jewelry, and pottery and beautiful wooden boxes.

Plan your holiday outings at local, owner operated restaurants and leave your server a nice tip. And, how about going out to see a play or ballet at your hometown theatre? Musicians need love too, so find a venue showcasing local bands.

Honestly, people, do you REALLY need to buy another ten thousand Chinese lights for the house? When you buy a five dollar string of light, about fifty cents stays in the community. If you have those kinds of bucks to burn, leave the mailman, trash guy or babysitter a nice BIG tip.

You see, Christmas is no longer about draining American pockets so that Chinacan build another glittering city. Christmas is now about caring about US, encouraging American small businesses to keep plugging away to follow their dreams. And, when we care about other Americans, we care about our communities, and the benefits come back to us in ways we couldn't imagine. THIS is the new American Christmas tradition.

Forward this to everyone on your mailing list -- post it to discussion groups -- throw up a post on Craigslist in the Rants and Raves section in your city -- send it to the editor of your local paper and radio stations, and TV news departments. This is a revolution of caring about each other, and isn't that what Christmas is about?

Jazzy Jane sweaters...

Every season, I like to design new styles that reflect my ideas of what I would want to wear this season.

The Jane sweater is my perfect "throw on and go" style... flattering, off the shoulder, and easy to wear with a groovy long skirt or jeans.

Why "Jane"? Well, it's like our top selling Belinda sweater, but a fresher take on it. And Jane Wiedlin and Belinda were two of the most memorable (and fashionable!) members of my favorite 80's band, the Go-Go's.

Always fun, never serious, and playful in every way.

Getting Cozy this October!

This is the best time of the fall... when the weather turns a bit crisp and we like to cozy up...

We had a recent photo shoot in the hills of Topanga with Betty Kim. What fun as we went from a hot day in the canyon to a slight chill as the sun set.

The classic "Frances" wrap has been a fan favorite at ME & Blue. It's versatile, easy to wear, and can be worn a ton of ways. This fall season, our $75 classic piece is in a range of pretty colors. With a vintage inspired color pallet and in our favorite cozy (and machine washable!) sweater material.

I figured out the other day that for the past 6 weeks, I have been out of town for 4 of them. Wowza. With a baby due in a month, fall upon us, and me working on current designs as well as spring 2012 ... Well, there's a lot to process!

I relax and plan at the same time by getting inspired. Images, objects, and color. Here goes.

Fall circa 1973. My french grandma made the hat and poncho. Knee socks and my favorite oxford shoes top off the look. And the best? The smiley face shopping bag.

Billy goat, lovely lambs, and the county fair

Last week I got to spend some quality time with my family after my grandfather had passed. In the small town of Cherokee, Oklahoma, the Alfalfa County Fair is a big deal.

I had already established my love for Billy, the goat owned by our friend Lindy and her family.

When we heard that Billy was going to be at the fair, even better! We arrived shortly before the "Goat Show."

We took a quick tour of the arts & crafts section. Isn't this peacock feather filled boot great?

Maddy, Lindy's 11 year old daughter, won a gold ribbon for it, cool!

Before hitting the goat show, we got a glimpse of the other fun animals...

The no name pig. I prefer to call him "Wilbur." Oh so Charlotte's Web, no?!

Baaaaah!

Of course, I thought of the fashionable influence of these lovely lambs. Don't their groomed legs look reminiscent of these groovy boots from Isabel Marant? Who knew?!

Then it was time for Billy to hit the stage...

Alas, Billy got 3rd place in this competition.

But back at the farm, it was all smiles.

this and that, prairie style...

Ahh, what a few weeks it has been.

In the midst of ME & Blue launching its fall collection at the Magic show in Las Vegas, I got word that my 100 year old grandfather was nearing the end. Off to Cherokee, Oklahoma I went for a few days... that has turned into a couple of weeks. It has been a blessing to see life go out as I feel new life inside of me.

Goofing around in Oklahoma... a week later, a more formal ceremony would take place.

I'm used to high rises and mountains as landmarks when I am driving. In small towns like Alva, Oklahoma, the grain elevator is a typical sight.

Sunset at the Great Salt Plains. Gorgeous. It's a great place to dig for salt crystals.

I love this sign, in nearby Helena, Oklahoma. It always makes me laugh.

Chilling out on the front porch. Fake beer and watching the traffic go by in the small town of Cherokee, Oklahoma.

We all stayed at my grandparent's house. And got the player piano going.

A formal funeral... my grandfather was the Chief of the Border Patrol and had a beautiful ceremony full of Border Patrol officers who did an amazing job of honoring his life.

He wrote this book , "The Journey" that discusses the significant historical events of his career...

Flags, 21 gunshots, and lots of olive green. The uniforms looked the same as they did 70 years ago.

Each rose represented a member of the Ster/Hughes/Molnar families. I view funerals as a chance to think and celebrate the best of the person and to think about how you want the rest of your life to go.

Later that day... a drive in the old pickup truck.

With my sister, Blue and her hubby, Kevin and Sallie who was all smiles.

Later that evening, family time at the Great Salt Plains State Park. Gorgeous.

It's been great to spend time with family and I'm fortunate to have a loving hubby who has been taking care of my life in LA. I can't wait to see him in a couple of days!

And many thanks to the ME & Blue gals (and guys!) who have helped me keep the business running while away.

I see orange, Texas Longhorn orange, that is...

I got a special order from an account in Texas for their favorite color - orange. But not just any orange, University of Texas orange. Adelante of Austin is getting ready to kick off football season and they needed some game day goodies, LA style!

As the art school girl who skipped football games at FSU, I was a football outsider. I just never quite got it. Until now. I appreciate people who are passionate. And this is a passionate bunch. I hear the owner of Adelante drives a burnt orange car to show her longhorn spirit. Ooh, I like her already. Serious football fans! And Matthew McConaughey* is a fan, so what's not to love?

Here's the progress we've made over the past few months...

- get word from my Texas rep in the spring that Adelante wanted an "orange" t-shirt group. OK!

- test out fabric swatches at the local dye house, making a "lab dip" that I got approval on from the buyer. This is a special burnt orange, I better get it right!

- send samples out & have the rep stop by and secure the order...

- tweak and test the patterns for the garment dye process...

- sew it all up in white and drop it off at the local dye house here in LA.

- pick it all up and sew in ME & Blue labels (if not, they get all dyed in the process and aren't so pretty) and laugh at my sewing contractor who was complaining. Seriously, this needs to look good!

- steam it all! Isn't fashion glamorous? And yes, that's a baby bump I'm sporting. It's hot in there...

- did I say steam? Oops, I missed a spot!

- pack it all up & get it out the door, whew! These fans have some parties to get dressed for and Adelante has an upcoming event to celebrate. Thanks Sean for all of your help!

Go Texas! And thanks Adelante for supporting ME & Blue. Rah rah!

*side note. The day of the photoshoot this past spring for the MEandBlue.com website, I saw Mr. McConaughey jogging by in Malibu. I did the honorable (and making a fool out of myself) thing and stopped and waved and said hello. Who can resist a good star sighting, even in LA? He was kind enough to return the wave. Thanks Matthew!

Wacky windows!

Dave and I got a bit shopped out on our recent trip to London.

Of course, I need to stop and take photos of anything that inspires me... and these fun, colorful windows at Selfridges did the trick. The sidewalk was full of people on Oxford Street as Dave blocked a few people so that I could take the shots. But it was worth it, huh?

OOOHH klahoma!

Last week my brother, Donald and sister, Blue joined my

Mom & Dad for a few days in Oklahoma. They all got together

to visit to our 100 year old Grandfather to the small town of

Cherokee, OK where he grew up and is now still living in...

I was recovering from my trip to London and will be heading out

there in the next week or so. I'm sorry I missed it. Fortunately,

my sister took these photos so I didn't feel like I missed out so much.

fabric, fabric everywhere!

As the ME & Blue collection has grown, so has my assortment of fabrics.

I used to house my fabrics in a couple of round bins and have a few in the stockroom of the boutique. Then I grew to renting a small studio space downtown. And the fabric kept growing.

I spend more & more time downtown on producing the ME & Blue line for the boutique as well as wholesale accounts around the country. And things had to change.

Here's what we did...

Found a good shelving unit. I liked these!

Have one more roll around on the fabric. Didn't I tell you? There's a lot of fabric. And this baby momma-to-be is getting organized!

Get the shelving unit delivered. The guy running the freight elevator wasn't so happy with us.

Then Sean & I cleared out some space to assemble it the unit.

Sean did the heavy lifting, I just pointed out what had to be done. Sometimes it's fun being the boss.

Cindy came by to say hello and leant a helping hand. She has a studio space for herself and had plenty of experience putting these things together.

Whew! Much, much better! More images of the newly organized studio space to come.

I don't get too excited about most celebrities, but I felt a bit silly recently at the Rose Bowl flea market.

I spotted Mr. Brainwash (Thierry Guetta) at a nearby booth. Immediately I took out my phone and started googling him, checking to make sure it was him before I spoke up. "Excuse me! Are you Mr. Brainwash?" Well yes, it was him. All charming with his french accent, and much nicer than I expected as he introduced himself to me. I gushed about how much I loved the film "Exit Through the Gift Shop."

But I forgot to mention how much I love the t-shirts that he designed for KCRW. My hubby has one...

and I do, too!

Ahh, next time. He mentioned that he has an upcoming art show in Santa Monica... I joined his mailing list to stay informed. Until then, I'll have to watch this fun documentary again.

Bedlam in London...

Dave & I are safely back in the U.S. and loved our recent stay in London.

Our friend, Caroline Butler recently opened up a groovy store called the Earl of Bedlam.

I asked her, "Why Bedlam?" Well... it's named after a mental institution right down the street from her store. Of course, it's all in the name of fun at the boutique.

But ironically, a few days after we saw her, plenty of shenanigans, looting, and general mayhem erupted on the streets of London. It wasn't the citie's finest moment, I'm sure. Caroline kept us posted on Facebook and closed early one night and kept the boutique safe by dressing the mannequins like this to protect the store...

Fortunately, our trip wasn't affected by the riots and it certainly wasn't anything to keep us away in the future.

Victorian graveyards, Abney style.

Ahh, how I love lazy days in London.

Our plans to visit Stonehenge didn't happen when we overslept. It was better this way. We got to see my longtime friend, Vivienne. Vivienne & I met 16 years ago when we both moved from NYC to Philadelphia at the same time to work for Mother's Work (now Destination Maternity).

Vivienne now lives in London full time and is ever the fashionista. Dave & I took the bus to Stoke Newington, a lovely area of London.

It's nice to be off the beaten tourist trek.

This poster that was just featured in Time Out London says it all...

This victorian cemetary, the Abney is lovely. A bit overgrown, but lots of fun to walk around.

Dave recognized this cathedral from some of his favorite British TV shows, Waking the Dead.

What's so lovely about London is the city vibe, but the garden living that also happens. Back to Vivienne's place for a lovely rest in the garden!

Tube rides, Spitalfields, Rough Trade, & phone booth kisses

Oh, how I love a good Sunday in London!

Sundays at Spitalfields Market are the best. We were there a couple of years ago and had to go back. And off we went via the London Tube...

Aah. It's worth everything just for these polite words. After living in NYC in the early 90's and braving their subway system... civility is nice on the train, isn't it?

Almost there. Ooh! What will we find today?

A phone booth! Who uses these things but to kiss in?

And we're here! The Old Spitalfields Market is a covered victorian market hall and full of fun vintage & new vendors...

Like this one, Rock a Bye Baby. Emma designs some cool baby clothes, and I'm sure that Baby Blue in my bump will appreciate her designs as much as me. Dave kept saying, "No more baby clothes!"

So we made a stop at Clara Francis to buy this beautiful hand beaded butterfly necklace. I bought a hummingbird necklace from her a couple of years ago...

And yes, more baby clothes. This from Little Mashers, at a stall in the nearby Up Market.

Dave got a vintage flight jacket and a couple of groovy t-shirts, too!

We made a last minute stop here...

A groovy record store, Rough Trade. A kinder, gentler, smaller Amoeba Music.

But alas, time to go home and rest. Momma-to-be is tired!

London Calling

My hubby, Dave and I have finally taken a long awaited honeymoon / now babymoon to our favorite city, London! Here's what the trip has been like so far...

We saw this bus on the 405 freeway in LA on the way to LAX. A sign of a great trip to come. If I can laugh that early in the morning, it's a good thing!

Jetlag day 1. We settled in nicely to our VRBO pad in the Islington area of London. I fell in love with the space immediately. A perfect mix of a renovated row home, modern touches, and a lovely garden. Very very nice! Still jetlagged. Time to take a photo of my baby bump.

And more jetlag. Time to stock up on all of my British fashion magazines. I love how they give you free lipgloss, eyeliner, and even horoscope guides along with magazine itself.

Day 2 ... off to the London Eye.

Then we realized that it would take some time to go around. With my impatience and claustrophobia. Uuh, no thanks. But it was fun to look at from the ground.

And we landed right next to the Vintage Festival at the Southbank Centre. Check it out!

It was crowded!

I love vintage clothing. I sell less of it in the boutique than I used to, but it's a huge source of inspiration for my line. And there was plenty of inspiration to go around!

One of favorite booths was Strawberry Kats. They're stuff has a vintage vibe and it super wearable. I'm always a sucker for cutout shoulders and pretty prints.

And this fun pillow from Retro Pigeon was a gift for baby-Blue to be. I hope she loves vintage stuff as much as me!

And I'm always a fan of fun vintage/bamboo furniture. This chair looks like a flower. Love it!

Dave even got in a jam session on this British Music Experience groovy vintage double decker bus. We went upstairs and checked out the recording studio!

And I felt like a modern day groupie as I went down the tiny little staircase.

More updates to come from London. In the meantime, our AB FAB British sales girls Henny, Caroline, and a guest appearance from Danielle are keeping the boutique rolling. Shop guys Sean and Phillip are also helping to keep things moving along. Aah, how I love a little vacation. Cheers!

it's never too early to think of your Halloween costume...

My brother, Donald used to plan in the summer for his costume. My sister, Blue was easy. With red hair, we would dress her up in animal prints and add a chicken bone to her hair. For Donald, the Incredible Hulk meant a costume of torn jeans, green face, and no shoes. Voila. Circa 1979 Halloween.

And Dave & I will have a Halloween baby this year. My inspiration? The new Smurfs movie. I think this is a do-able costume, a Smurfette.

Don't you think? I'll have to get right on talking to my seamstress. In the meantime, I may just need to see this movie soon!

Uh, yeah.

The bump hasn't appeared, but Baby Blue is on her way this fall.

I'm in my 2nd trimester and have loads of energy. My honeymoon still needs to be planned and new gals are helping out in the boutique. To top it off, wholesale orders are starting to roll in as ME & Blue expands its Venice style!

I've even had a bit of time to work on my own version of a baby book M.E. style....

I got a good start on it when I recently took a class at "Stamping from the Heart" with Kelly K.

I'll Fly Away...

It's been a hectic few weeks.

My dear Grandmother Shirley (shown below with my sister, Blue) passed a couple of weeks ago and I went to Oklahoma to spend time with my family and celebrate her life. She was one of the most generous people that I have ever known. She would have me sit down at her house and write out checks to her favorite charities. When we would see someone less fortunate on the street, she would say... "Now M.E., say a prayer for that person."

It was nice to spend time with my mom and dad (above) and brother and sister (below).

The hot Oklahoma wind was opportune as we sang this song before she laid to rest...

I love a good swing!

My brother in law, Kevin Hughes built this groovy swing. He's a master woodworker and works at DIY Woodworking Shop in Asheville, NC and owns his own business, An Crann furniture.

I love the philosophy of this fun town. It reminds me a lot of the Venice vibe, but in the mountains and with a touch of ya'll added to the local lingo.

Wishing you a happy Easter weekend! Please note that ME & Blue will be closed on Easter Sunday.

I'm taking a few days off in my favorite place with my family. I love visiting Asheville, NC.

JEARS.org and lace update!

So far we have donated $130 to Worldvets.org and Jears.org to help needy doggies in Japan. I give these volunteers so much credit who are out in the field, risking their well being in radiation zones.

Here's a video of a recent interview on Anderson Cooper's 360 show. Worldvets.org has closed down their "chipin" page, so we re-directed our donations to JEARS.org which is working hand in hand with Worldvets.org.

Pixie sizes!

I've gotten quite a few requests for smaller sizes. As a size 12/14 busty (yes! They're real) gal, I have envisioned the initial ME & Blue line for girls with boobs and butts. But the tinier gals (love you!) need an ME & Blue fix, too. So we're testing the "Pixie" size. These sizes are designed for narrower shoulders, less of a bust, and are a tad bit shorter. Pixie? Yes. You know her, she's the boxer that my husband & I adopted last fall from Boxer Rescue Los Angeles.

She's a tinier gal, full of grace and fun & lots of spunk. And so she has her own size name at ME & Blue.

Pixie sizes are now available in select styles and colors. Come in and ask for Pixie!

Here's a bit of this and that...

I took a quick trip to the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs with my friend Kristi earlier this month. We rode fun beach cruisers to get our nails done. Ooh la la!

My ultimate relaxation? Working on my collage book by the pool...

I love these flags at the Parker in Palm Springs. Very Christo, don't you think?

A trip to LAX isn't complete without stopping at Randy's Donuts. And seeing a Space Invader icon up there is pretty cool, too!

Love you, Kristi! She lived the California dream for a few weeks with me. She's back in Richmond, VA making people smile with her lovely flower arrangements at Flower Girls.

And...then my friend Lisa stopped by the boutique. She was doing a trend spotting trip with her company, La Senza. It was so nice to see her!

I was out thrifting the other day and laughed at this tag. Oh so 80's, oh so cool!

Aren't these party mugs fun? They have a list of all of the essential ingredients for a good time. Very 1976, I'm thinking.

California Cruising, part 2

The 2nd part of my trip with Kristi was tons of fun, too!

First stop? Harmony, CA. Population 18. Plus lots of tourists like us!

I grabbed a couple of mugs... cute!

The rest of the day, we made out way to Big Sur.

The Elephant Seal Preserve was amazing.

Hundreds of seals on the beach, all doing their thing. (wow!)

We made it to Big Sur just after sunset and prompty went to the swankiest place in town. The Post Ranch Inn. The guard at the front was fine with our vintage ride. We inquired about the cost of one evening - $500 and up, but opted for dinner at the bar instead.

Heidi, the bartender filled us in on the cool places to go and off we went!

Fernwood Campgrounds was empty and we made the treacherous drive down the road. Mud wasn't our friend as I backed up and put a nice ding in the side of the van (oops!), but opted to enjoy the scenery to take away the stress the next day.

The next morning, our wake up looked like this.

And our morning walk looked like this!

And we met this local critter. I was intrigued.

The second evening in Big Sur, we discovered the Henry Miller Library, Nepenthe, and this amazing sunset.

Off we went the final day to drive back home.

It was good to see my honey and Kristi and I had a couple of nights to relax before a trip to my favorite Palm Springs getaway, the Ace Hotel. More pics to come!

Vintage Surfari, a VW and coastal cruising...part 1

It's been a whirlwind week as I took some days off and did some cruising in a vintage VW with my pal Kristi. Thanks to VW Surfari, Kristi's dream of driving up the California coast became a reality, and my new adventure, too!

The "Taos" wagon, a 1979 VW Westfalia was our set of wheels and sleeping quarters for several days. First step? Gassing up. Oops. It's a bit tricky, but we finally figured it out.

We cruised up Topanga Canyon, hit the PCH, and took the scenic route until we couldn't any longer. A quick jaunt thru Santa Barbara, some words of wisdom from the locals, and off to camp at El Capitan State Park. My favorite part? Yummy coffee in the morning!

The next morning we were off to get some gas. Oops. We didn't have enough to make it to our next town and pulled over to wait for for a refuel... Thanks AAA.

By evening, we reached Sycamore Hot Springs for a bit of R&R.

...and had a yummy dinner at the Cracked Crab in Pismo Beach.

Another recommendation, we navigated our way (a bit out of the way, but we got there!) to Montana De Oro State Park for another restful night in our home away from home.

It's been a lot of good stuff going on. One of my closest friends, Kristi has been in town for a couple of weeks and road trips have ensued. Here's my philosophy on having guests. It hangs in the house of my mom's closest friend, Linda. I think it's pretty cool.

Taking the plunge at the Pool Tradeshow.

I took the plunge and did my first tradeshow to introduce the ME & Blue line to the world. At the Pool Tradeshow in Las Vegas (2/14 - 2/16), I networked with a ton of fun buyers. I love working with my customers at the boutique, and it's just as fun to meet other retailers who are also selling from their boutiques.

The Pool Tradeshow is for up & coming designers and buyers who are looking for the newest lines. As a self financed business, it's a great way for me to introduce ME & Blue to the world.

Here's what my life was like up to, during, and just after the show...

1. Get my collection together. I decided on 3 "groups" - LA LA land lace, I married a guy from Jersey, and Cozy sweaters. Here's a piece from the upcoming lace collection!

2. Design a "linesheet". The guide for a buyer to know what styles & silhouettes I'm able to produce. What colors, what sizes, and prices I offer as well. I was working 'til the last minute on getting samples done, photos taken, and copies made.

3. Get it together! I had a wall graphic designed for the booth, made a list, checked it twice, and took a deep breath.

4. Pack it all up... samples, mannequin, display fixtures & more. Thank goodness for my hubby and my tried and true Toyota Matrix. We took the doggies to the kennel and woke up bright and early to come to Vegas on Sunday and get rolling.

5. Drink LOTS of water. Driving to Vegas, baby, Vegas.

6. Set up the booth. I opted for the Co-op section since I'm just getting started. With only 6 feet by 8 feet (and a back wall), getting creative with the space was important.

7. Meet the neighbors! Next to me at the show was Handsomeboy tees. Dunstan and his girlfriend T. flew in from Boston to show this cool line.

8. Get some rest! Well, almost. p.s. Hard Rock Hotel... being in a room above a nightclub with a thumping bass is NOT an upgrade.

9. For 3 days, I watched and greeted buyers going by to check out the show.

I set up a little office space to send out quick emails and log my contacts who came by.

I got lots of comments and inquiries. For 3 days, I showed the line, talked to potential buyers, and started plotting production for my next batch of goodies.

10. It wasn't all work. I was right near the happy hour station! T. and I both love our gin & tonics!

11. Barter with the neighbors on the last day.

I traded this Frances sweater for a few Handsome Boy t-shirts!

12. Break it down!

13. Pack it all up & rest. Drive back home & pick up the doggies. We missed you guys!

14. Whew! I met some amazing buyers and am excited for ME & Blue to be carried in other boutiques around the country. Look for Vagabond in Philadelphia, Frock in Asheville and a few other stores up my sleeve to be carrying the ME & Blue line soon. Woot woot!

15. Back in LA, I'm working with my fabric resources to get fabric delivered on time for production deadlines. And thinking about my next set of designs. I love this business!

I love the new sign outside. Just in time for Valentine's Day.
I'm such a sap. I got engaged last year on the day. It's just up til the 14th of February, but a gentle reminder of my favorite conversation heart candies, and to spread the love!

Phillip helped me out. We drew the heart on plywood, transferred the copy to it, and painted away.

It's amazing what a bit of paint can do!

We're refreshing the boutique... a new coat of paint on the floor, and cleaning up the baseboards. I've been doing lots of spring cleaning, and now it's official! After being open for a year and a half, it's time! We're closed Monday, 2/7/11, and will reopen on Tuesday, 2/8/11.

We squeezed all of the merchandise into the stockroom and sale/fitting room area to make room. And the tiki bar wrap desk is also getting a freshening up. Yay!

oh, how I can't wait to see the new floors!

My new routine is to spend all day on Friday getting new fabric for production, tweak existing patterns, and to fill in on our fun accessories. I meet Danielle in the morning, pass on to her the new items that from my sewing contractor, and then get on my day.

She gets to the store and gets the newest styles on the mannequins and gets ready for our weekly "Sip & Shop" Friday. It's a great new routine.

As business has been picking up and I'm also gearing up for the Pool Tradeshow in Vegas, I seem to be getting more and more fabric each week.

My rickety granny cart (and my back!) are getting a workout at the end of the day as I transfer the newest fabrics from my car, to the granny cart, up a freight elevator, and to my sewing contractor. Whew! I know that one day I'll say, "Wow... remember when I had to schlep all of the fabric myself?"

salty dogs and a sunset

I love Leo Carillo State Park. It's on the ocean, and if you're on the Ventura County side of it, dogs are totally fine to come on the beach. I'm working on a weekly relaxation ritual and if I can bring Pixie and Chase along, even better. Too bad my husband has to work.

I packed away most of the leftover goodies from the WONDERFUL WINTER SALE and hauled them away the other day. I had to laugh. I use a vintage baby basinet on big wheels. I had to make sure the cars outside yielded to me as I wheeled the basket across the street. I rarely use boxes to move things, so blue IKEA bags are my best friend.

Last Friday, I worked with Ashley McCue (photographer) and Rachel Jolley (model) on getting some fab photos together. Ashley worked her magic in a couple of hours, and Rachel totally lit up the images with her amazing smile. I needed a few editorial shots of the Romina dress for the upcoming Pool Tradeshow that I am exhibiting at.

The sunshine was out yesterday and it felt like a typical summery day in LA. I was laughing because there was nothing wintery about the day, except the "Wonderful Winter Sale" signs everywhere.

Today is the last day of the BOGO 1/2 off sale items promotion.

New Year, new things I'm working on...

Yep, it's that time of the year.

Besides being in the midst of getting goodies out for our Wonderful Winter Sale, I've been working on lots of other new things, too... ME! Weight Watchers Points Plus. I can't even tell you the number on the scale, but it's up there. But I'm happily counting my points. Cardio Barre. I kept saying I'd take a class, and I've starting going to the local studio near my house in Woodland Hills. My booty already feels better.

My little brother turned 40 yesterday. Happy Birthday, Donald! Your t-shirt is coming.

My therapy? My collage book. I'm taking a class for the next couple of days to improve my skills, I have an art degree, but this is soooooo much more fun!

Even fun 4 year olds!

Check out Brandi who came in a couple of days ago.

She showed off some of my favorite vintage scarves.

The first style was a big Picasso inspired square.

Fold it in half.

And then again into a triangle.

Doesn't it look good as a head scarf?

Well.... doesn't it?

And you can take that triangle and roll it up, too...

And voila! A cool neck scarf.

And this fun little rectangular polka dot scarf is great.

Wrap it around a few times as a wrist scarf.

Or around your head as a headband.

Or around your neck as a cool little accent.

I'm accessorizing a dog. This good ol boy, "Champ" from Boxer Rescue Los Angeles was a ton of fun to work with today. I added the bandana and reindeer antlers for good measure.

And I'm always a sucker for a good star sighting. I was oblivious to who was on the set since I got about 4 hours of sleep. (Hello! I was still worried about waking up even though I set two different alarm clocks.) My un-caffeinated self looked up and saw Carnie Wilson and her Wilson Phillips gals doing a sound check. I was excited to see them getting ready for the segment right after the Adopt A Pet. I can't wait to buy their new Christmas album, "Christmas in Harmony."

Little do they know that when I'm out vintage shopping, I scour CD's. And found their debut classic CD recently, "Wilson Phillips".

I can't help but sing along during my road trips to this classic song.

I can't resist when I travel. "I brake for thrift stores" should be a bumper sticker on my car. And my recent trek to Oklahoma proved no different. Check 'em out.

I'm thinking this bling bling number is early 90's. Perfect for a holiday party.

This is my favorite hand painted sign. It's at the base of a giant "Co-op" grain silo. Everytime I'm in Cherokee, Oklahoma I stop and use it as a photo opportunity. a big birthday...

The Bradshaw dress is a fun, flirty number. Think Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and City... when she was in Paris and realizes that the Russian (Barishnokov) just isn't the right guy for her. A defining moment.

These dresses make a statement. They swish when you walk, and turn heads along the way.

lovely cream lace... shown here with the lovely Veronica style. My wedding dress was used from this fabric, and the perfect boho bride could wear this. A modern day "Gunne Sax" girl would love this with rock n' roll boots.

Wear a seamless slip underneath, or add a skirt slip for even more coverage.

I had fun playing around in mine yesterday. My feet are still recovering from wearing my rock n' roll boots, but it was all worth it!

I did my version of retail therapy yesterday - a trip to the 99 Cent store to stock up on holiday decorations. And Phillip has been busy getting the lights up outside and prepping our new sign outside, "Groovy Gifts". Ooh.

We're getting excited for our 2nd Annual Holiday Soiree in a couple of days.

Jerry dresses, day to disco!

I've been so excited for this new design. It's the "Jerry" dress, reminiscent of model Jerry Hall circa Studio 54 and Mick Jagger's arm candy. Think boho disco dress. The shoulders tie up or down, and the wrap at the bottom shows plenty of leg when you're walking (or dancing!) around.

Available in black and rasberry. Olive stripe coming.

Deborah Crooks, groovy dresses, and the Viper Room

I met this inspiring musician the other day. Deborah Crooks was passing through town and happened upon ME & Blue. She looking amazing in the Friedman dress and modelled it during our Sip & Shop Friday as she strummed along to her guitar. I'm no musician, so I was fascinated in how she booked gigs, made a record, and was coming back to LA for a gig at the Viper Room.

Check her out this Thursday, 11/4 at 8 PM at the Viper Room for an acoustic set.

And here's a little video that I put together. My first video, not so bad, huh? And she looks awesome in the Friedman dress!

Our top selling "Elizabeth" cowl neck is back this year in new & fun colors. Cindy has been coming to visit a lot and we're having a ton of fun renovating the lights in the boutique with her expertise. In the meantime, she's loving her Elizabeth cowl in an inky blue.

Sip & Shop, a lesson in Ghetto Physics, and Woof-ing it this weekend.

It's a Sip & Shop kindof a Friday, so I'm getting excited about this fun fall weekend. It kicks off with Sip & Shop at the boutique. 4 to 7 PM on Fridays. Yummy snacks and super duper expensive (just kidding!) wine.

Then off to see "Ghetto Physics". Danielle is a big fan, and it's only in town for a few days at the Rave 18 (formerly The Bridge theater).

It's by the makers of "What the bleep do we know?!". I love the idea of this film that in some way, we're all either a "pimp" or a "ho". Yeah, I know it sounds a bit extreme. But really, in this world, there are the people who rally to get the work to the people, and the worker bees. And I love documentaries, they get you thinking about things in a new way.

And Saturday, I'm off to Woof and Wine, sponsored by Boxer Rescue LA. . I do volunteer work with them whenever I can. Pixie Mae came from the Boxer Rescue... love that pumpkin!

Rockin' the Rose Bowl

It's been a fun filled week to get ready for my wedding.

I love the "Rose Bowl" monthly flea market in Pasadena, and I convinced Dave to join me this past Sunday on the quest for our perfect wedding cake toppers. It was hot, hot, HOT!

I wanted to swing by and say a quick hello to Erin Tavin of Tavin boutique in Echo Park. She has such an amazing eye and her store is pure Parisian magic. She has a booth at the Rose Bowl every month.

Then it was off to shop for wedding cake toppers. I went booth to booth in the home section, asking "Do you have any wedding cake toppers?" We did find a couple of animals that represented our brood, but no bride & groom at the market.

We were off to get some air conditioning, and took a quick peek in the Comic & Collectors section, downstairs. We ran across this groovy table of hip comedians and their quarterly "Devastator" book. Dave bought the t-shirt and we were off...

We left the Rose Bowl sans a wedding cake topper, but made a stop at the 99 Cents Only Store. I admit it, I'm a fan. And guess what I found? Ta da!

And the figurines that weren't quite what represented us? Dave took the Sharpie pen to the groom's hair as well as the dog that represented dog, Chase.

yes... I'm a big fan of adopting dogs. Dave and I are loving Pixie Mae, our new boxer that we got at Boxer Rescue Los Angeles. And Chase (r) is our fun loving senior gal that was left in an alley last summer. Seriously, there are so many doggies out there that need a good home. And the love that they give back is amazing. Meet Pixie Mae at the boutique most Tuesdays. I'm in to give fashion advice, and she's around to give lots of love, and a big sloppy kiss if you're not careful!

My dear friend Sallie is doing a walk in our hometown of Jacksonville Beach, Florida. If you've been in the boutique lately, you'll know that our fun "Sallie" tops have been a customer favorite. Even better, we're donating $5 for each Sallie top sold in October to the American Cancer Society "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of First Coast Beaches, Florida".

Sallie will be walking on October 16th (my wedding day!) for her cause. As a breast cancer survivor, Sallie I'm so proud of Sallie for being a brave soul in her battle. She now works at a groovy boutique, "In the Pink" that is dedicated to the cause, too.

Our goal is to sell 20 "Sallie" tops in the month of October to donate to her cause...

Bachelorette soirees, Big Red Sun blue house, and a black outfit

I had a fun "Bachelorette" soiree the other evening with my favorite gals at Big Red Sun. It brought back memories of my friend Debbie's party 20 years ago in Miami. We whooped it up in our glam black outfits, hit a stripper club, and used our fake ID's to get us along.

My own soiree was full of my favorite gals here in LA, and it was just what I needed. A soiree in a beautiful Blue House at Big Red Sun, dancing courtesy of some fabulous 10 year olds, and lots & lots of wine. I wore my favorite Charo dress and chatted with my favorite friends. Topped off by a fun slumber party at my other friend Debbie's house. Danielle pulled the whole thing together with ease. What fun!
